I have been praying for this day for 4 months now. Every since we received the news that we were moving, this day has weighed heavy on my heart. One of my only reservations of moving was uprooting Katelyn from a school she loved with dear friends and sending Zachary to a new school (one that he was not familiar with and only half day).
Katelyn has a sensitive spirit and I knew it would be hard for her to adapt to change and have to start all over (so to speak) and so my mama heart was heavy for her.
I knew I wanted to make this "Back to School" year extra special. Every year I make special treats and decorate in a special way but this year was different. This year I wanted it to be EXTRA special as we are all embarking on a new adventure with this new chapter of a new school and being in school altogether.
To say that God has been good and prepared the hearts of my children is an understatement. He has answered prayers and not only softened their hearts but gave them a great excitement for this school year. They have been looking forward to today all week. They have had no worries or first day jitters and embraced today with nothing but EXCITEMENT!

Zachary was so happy to pick shoes with some fluorescent orange and a camo backpack.
Guess who was so ready for the big first day of...
This guy! That's who!
So ready in fact that Katelyn was itching to get out the door 10 mins before we needed to because she didn't want to be late!
Our neighborhood has a lot of kids! There were at least 40 little ones hanging at the bus stop. What a mission field right at our back door!!
And this is the part where mommy lost it! I was doing ok watching the bus pull around but as it stopped I started to tear up. And then I started to pray with tears welling up, "Protect them Lord for they are yours. Show them love throughout their day. Encourage their hearts that You are by their side. And thank you for exciting their hearts to take on new challenges."
And then the tears really started to roll down those cheeks (thank you Lord for sunglasses!) when I captured this sweet moment. Katelyn was so protective of Zachary getting on the bus. She kept giving him instructions as they waited in line and then she guided his way as they got on. (See her holding his backpack handle!)
And just as she guided her brother, I was reminded of how the Lord has guided our every step thus far as we have stepped out in faithfulness to move to a new place, establish a new home, and start a new school. And my heart is thankful!
